We delivered an electrification system in Painkenape, Peru

Fundación Raíz Ecuador – Caemba and our Beyond Lagartococha project, we contribute with the delivery of a comprehensive electrification system for the Siekopai (Secoya) community of Painkenape. The community is located on the banks of the Napo River, in the Peruvian Amazon. Nearby is Nuevo Rocafuerte, an Ecuadorian town in the province of Orellana.

On January 21, 2021, we delivered and installed this system, which includes a high-end power generation plant. We have the support of the electricity technician Édison Intriago, who traveled from La Concordia, in Ecuador, to carry out this task. To provide electricity to the nine houses in Painkenape, a 600-meter-long wired network was extended. We also place light bulbs and electric breakers in each house.

All members of the community collaborated in the construction of the electrification network, as well as in the wooden house where the power plant is located. Painkenape settles in the Siekopai ancestral territory. This community was built thanks to the management of Fundación Raíz Ecuador – Caemba, as part of the Indigenous Territories project.

This community has basic services such as the distribution of drinking water from a well that works with solar panels. It also has a school, financed by us and from now on with electricity. In this way, we contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of this Secoya community, in the middle of the Amazon.
